About this compressor tool

Most "compress" tools just lower a quality slider blindly. This one runs a search: it re-encodes your image at a series of quality levels, then โ€” if even the floor overshoots your budget โ€” scales the pixel count down too, and hands you the largest file that still fits. You set "300 KB" and you get something as close to 300 KB as lossless-ish encoding allows, at the highest quality that fits.

How it works

  1. 1Drop your images in. Drag and drop, paste from the clipboard, or browse. Whole folders are fine โ€” the converter picks up every image it recognises.
  2. 2Tune the output. Pick a format, set the quality or a target file size, adjust dimensions, and dial in the colour. The preview updates as you type.
  3. 3Download. Save a single file, or grab the whole batch as one ZIP. A ten-second sponsored break comes first โ€” that is what keeps the tool free.

Tip: check the preview before downloading

The preview runs the exact same pipeline as the download, including quality and the size target. If it looks right in the preview, the file on disk will look identical โ€” there is no server-side re-encoding step that could change the result.

Format support

Every format that matters, in both directions

The output list only shows formats your browser can genuinely encode, so nothing ever fails silently.

Image formats supported for reading and writing by PixelForge
FormatStatus
JPGRead & write
PNGRead & write
WebPRead & write
AVIFRead & write
GIFRead & write
BMPRead & write
HEICRead (device dependent)
TIFFRead on some browsers
SVGRead (vector)

HEIC, TIFF, SVG and ICO are listed because your browser may be able to read them. If it cannot, the file is flagged with an explanation rather than failing silently โ€” and the HEIC page has the fastest workarounds for every device.

FAQ

Image Compressor โ€” questions

The things people actually ask about this conversion.

Photographs typically lose 60โ€“80% with no visible difference. Screenshots and flat graphics compress much less because they contain large areas of identical pixels. If compression cannot reach your target, the converter reduces dimensions instead and tells you so.
